Lewis
Lewis was born and raised in Los Angeles, California to immigrant parents. As a first-generation college student, Lewis attended Los Angeles City College and decided to pursue studies in Communications at California State University, Long Beach. He had already grown up having the skill to hear and then carefully provide insight when responding. Furthermore, his major had offered him the other important half of focusing on vocalizing your expressions and acknowledging the powerful influence of bold messages in a variety of settings whether public, personal, and professional life. He studied a variety of courses in intercultural communication, interpersonal communication, and public speaking which has taught him the importance of everything from one-on-one conversations to communicating with people from diverse cultures. In addition to being a Communication Studies major, he also studied Gerontology, the study of aging and older adults and used that to think about pursuing work in many diverse job opportunities. This has taught him that it is important for people to feel respected, heard, valued, and trusted in all aspects of life.
Growing up with parents in a natural environment who taught personal responsibility, accountability, and a strong work ethic, he had decided to pursue his personal ambitions at an early age. Through his ambition and first passion for music, he started to play the drums at age 13 and then transitioning later to vocals at age 20. At 25, he had worked professionally in film score music. Throughout his journey, he has worked 7 years in the restaurant industry as a line cook, 2 years as a tutor for children K-12, in addition to obtaining certificates in life insurance, real estate, and cybersecurity. However, unsatisfied with companies prioritizing profit over compassion, Lewis wanted a change in career paths in order to work with organizations that would focus more on promoting inclusion, immersion, and community over financial gain. Lewis has always shown compassion and care for others around him. And because he thrives in wanting to live a meaningful life, he decided to work in caretaking for elderly patients. Caretaking has offered him a new career in a supportive environment and the support for individuals to be able to maintain good health and mental stability. It has also taught him to work with the needs and preferences of the patients in their own natural environment. This allows them to live in a very positive environment. With his increasing desire to stay within creative pursuits, Lewis is continuing his ambitions and passions apart from music. He started to develop a different interest and passion which became acting by taking acting classes every week. It allows him an outlet and fulfills his constant need to have purpose in his life. He sees passions as a very important aspect for people to value their own mental health and how important it is for people to feel constantly valued.
He sees joining the Level Up team as an organization who cares about inclusion, immersion, and community and connecting with others who may share common goals that truly mean something to them. He also sees this as an opportunity to be able to offer guidance, awareness, self-determination, self-motivation, appreciation, and creative independence in order for others to also fulfill their own ambitions and live meaningful lives. He sees working with others as a constant source of inspiration to help in learning about himself in return. He doesn’t see this as just a career but the potential to share a memorable journey with others and to value and cherish experiences to the absolute fullest. That is the quality of life that is so crucial to a person's overall well-being. And he wants to be able to create ever-changing moments with the people he is looking forward to supporting.
