Makena was raised in Chino Hills, California alongside her younger brother. She comes from a family who loves basketball, spending time at the beach, and giving back to their community. Her lifelong inspiration is her mother, who works as a Special Education teacher. From a young age, Makena understood the importance of awareness, compassion, and inclusion. 

Makena is an undergraduate student at UCLA, majoring in Human Biology and Society with a minor in Disability Studies. She is deeply involved with Special Olympics and Unified at UCLA, where she has the opportunity to coach basketball to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Makena is also an active member of Special Patient Care Initiative and Best Buddies, where she promotes disability advocacy and education. 

In the future, Makena plans to attend medical school with the hope of specializing in pediatrics. Her ultimate goal is to provide accessible, supportive, and community-centered care to children of all abilities and their families. 

Makena is excited to be part of the Level Up community as a Direct Support Professional. She is looking forward to fostering meaningful connections while helping participants become the best version of themselves.
